Caracas, January 25, 2006 - Sixth World Social Forum
Today, the activity organized by the Marcosur Feminist Articulation
(AFM) entitled “From victims to resisting people. Your mouth is
fundamental against fundamentalisms” was carried out before some 50
people - most of them women - who managed to overcome the vagueness of
information within the Sixth World Social Forum programme of activities
and finally arrived at the Colegio Universitario de Caracas. The
workshop is part of the campaign launched by this feminist network at
the second edition of the WSF in 2002, under the above-mentioned
slogan: “Your mouth is fundamental against fundamentalisms”.

Iraqi Feminist Yanar Mohammed Takes to the Airwaves
It
is not unusual for millions of Iraqis to fix their television sets on
talk shows and catch Yanar Mohammed, speaking forcefully in a tone that
is polite but determined, serious yet animated, seated between a Muslim
cleric and a representative of the U.S. position to her left, and a
Kurdish political candidate and a Sunni opposition leader to her right. Yanar stands out for two reasons. She is a woman. And she does not wait for good questions. She asks them.

Houzan
Mahmoud is continuously been interviewed
by various media outlets about her
organisations opposition to the so
called elections and the current
political situation in Iraq, the women’s
rights and violation of human rights in
Iraq. In her answer’s Houzan made sure to
expose the current sham elections and
its empty meaning politically in Iraq,
she described it as a show only, which
has nothing to do with implementing
“democracy” but it is rather a sectarian
division of tribal, religious and ethnic
interest of each party taking part in
the elections in the 15/12/2005.
Houzan also in some other parts in
various interviews shed the light on the
important struggle of women and workers
to end the occupation. She also stressed
upon the importance of ending the
ongoing military occupation of Iraq, and
endless support for Iraq’s secular and
